Konyek Quarterly illuminates, celebrates and publishes work by african writers. Africa has one of the oldest traditions of poetry and storytelling. Across the continent lorists, poets, griots, riddlers, and the everyday person communicated history, news, events, traditions and celebrations through their skill and craft from one generation to the next. Over millennia, many of these tales were lost to time due to natural order of things, as well as conquest, war, colonization and intentional eradication. Still today, African writers, poets and storytellers occupy a unique and essential space in in the world and Konyek Quarterly is one in a growing number of spaces that welcome, celebrate and support this long tradition.
